Invite me into the marriage! God

Bob

Matt 19:5 - For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and the two will become one flesh.

Whether for better or worse, your marriage is only for a season. But the consequences of how you live it out are for eternity. Unfortunately, it takes two to make it but only one to break it!

"All the work and prayer I put into our marriage didn't change it."

But it changed you!
Your marriage will someday pass and fade away.
But what I have done will remain forever.

The world blames marriage problems on things like communication, incompatibility, or just drifting apart. But in the vast majority of cases, the marriage doesn't cause the problems. It merely reveals them. The Holy Spirit once told me,

Every problem in a marriage is a direct reflection of a problem that one or both spouses have in their relationship with God.

After thinking this over for a day I asked somewhat skeptically, " EVERY problem ????" The answer was a prompt

Without exception!

Christians are just as confused as the unsaved world when they blame marriage problems on communication. The Holy Spirit says,

When there is love, no misunderstanding is too great.
And when there is not love, no amount of communication is enough.

Pastor and Christian author Francis Chan observes, "There has never been in the history of this earth a Spirit-filled couple that has divorced. Never. So the issue is not his needs or her needs or love languages or this or that. The issue is that somehow, as individuals, you don't understand the love of Jesus. You don't understand it, you don't get it, you haven't been filled with that love. And that's why you start fighting and arguing and quarreling. It's because of that emptiness that you want the other person to fill. It all goes back to this. It's the core issue. I think about how many hours I've wasted counseling in marriages, when it really wasn't about the marriage. You really don't understand how much God loves you. You don't really understand this love of Christ that surpasses knowledge."
