Which Is the True Religion?

Q: Do religions contradict each other?
A: Yes, all of the major religions (and most of the smaller ones) contradict one another.

From left to right, the world religions represented in the oh-so-clever Contradict Movement logo are Hindu, Tao, Shinto, Unitarian, Satanist, Aetheist, Native American, Jewish, Islam, and Christianity. Wikipedia lists 5 major, 14 mid-sized, and 4,000+ minor world religions. Each has the 'chutzpah' to think that they are right and everyone else is wrong!!! And the members of each religion rarely question the correctness of their beliefs!!!

Same Vocabulary, Different Dictionary - The claim that ’most religions are basically the same’ is patently false. The same is true for Christian denominations. Yes, all Christian denominations use the same terms: God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Bible, Salvation, etc. This gives the outward appearance of consistency. But if you scratch beneath the surface (something that the average Christian never does), you will find that they define these terms differently.

Tolerance vs. Truth - Please don't confuse tolerance and truth. Tolerance doesn't mean that we accept all religions as equally true. Tolerance is a pragmatic agreement - prompted by a long and shameful history of religious wars and persecution - to peacefully coexist despite our religious differences.

The Limits of Logic - Logic can tell you that whenever there are mutually exclusive opinions (e.g. 4000+ world religions), at most only one can be right . Even a child can understand that. But logic cannot tell you which (if any!) is right.

My Response - Most people never make an informed choice about their religious beliefs. Instead they simply take the path of least resistance and inherit their religious beliefs from the people they love and trust - particularly from their parents and grandparents. That is precisely how false religions propagate from one generation to the next. As for me, I stopped listening to people altogether and started reading God's Word for myself. It was a wonderful way to get saved!!!
