Physics and Faith

Bob

Psalm 19:1 - The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Physics is the scientific study of the nature and properties of matter and energy. It includes mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, the structure of molecules, atoms, and subatomic particles, and cosmology. It is highly mathematical yet at the same time highly practical. And it strongly supports my Christian faith for several reasons.

  • Physicists Believe In Things They Can't See - Physicists have no problem believing in things they cannot see such as atoms, photons, magnetic fields, and electron spin. Consequently, it's easy for us to believe in the unseen spiritual world.

  • Physicists Are Humbled By Creation - Physicists get to see the vast span of creation from the smallest subatomic particles to the entire universe - all governed in precision and harmony by the same natural laws. We are humbled by the awesome creative power of God!

  • Physicists Respect the Truth - Physicists are trained to think objectively. We don't twist the data to support our own opinions or pet theory. We allow the facts to speak for themselves. We would much rather deal with an uncomfortable fact rather than accept a comfortable lie.
