Earth Suit

What Is an Earth suit? - My pastor points out that spiritual warfare is more understandable when viewed in the context of an "Earth suit." If you want to live in outer space, you need a space suit. And if you want to live on planet Earth, you need an Earth suit. An "Earth suit" is simply your physical body.

In the Beginning . . . God created Eden, a perfect Kingdom where Heaven and Earth, the spiritual and the physical, peacefully coexisted side-by-side. . . . . until you know what happened. At that point something went "snap!" and Heaven and Earth were separated. Ever since that time the spaces belonging to humans beings vs. spiritual beings don't overlap very often (Gen 3:23-24). To participate in the affairs of planet Earth you must now have an "Earth suit" (i.e. a physical human body). Every Earth suit has an expiration date. When your Earth suit expires you body dies and you no longer have an active role on planet Earth.

Evil Rulers of This Present Age - Jesus, Paul, and the apostle John all tell us that Satan and his evil angels currently rule the Earth. They do this by controlling the worldviews of most people on the planet. They control the world’s philosophies, education, and commerce. They are also the sources of all the false religions of the world. Since they don't have their own Earth suits, they carry out their evil agenda indirectly - by influencing and controlling the thoughts and feelings of human beings. That's why we are cautioned (2 Cor 10:5) to take every thought captive - because some of the thoughts in our head come from the evil spiritual domain.

Jesus Puts On an Earth Suit! - Two thousand years ago the fallen angels watched in great consternation as Jesus (their arch enemy!) put on an Earth suit and was born in Bethlehem! This was a bold invasion into enemy territory! It was a declaration of war! Taking no chances, the evil spirit empire immediately tried to kill Jesus by inciting King Herod to kill all the baby boys in Bethlehem. When that failed they later incited an angry mob in Nazareth to throw Jesus off a cliff, and another angry mob at the Temple to stone Him to death. The Bible records more than eight attemps to kill Jesus. But Jesus said about his life (John 10:18) "No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own. I have power to lay it down, and power to take it up again." The evil powers who prompted the religious leaders to kill Jesus gloated when He suffered and died on the Cross (Ps 22: 12-13 ). But when Jesus rose from the dead, they realized that Jesus' sacrifice was actually the beginning of their end. As Paul explains (1 Cor 2:18, AMP) "None of the rulers of this age recognized and understood this wisdom; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory."

Summary - The concept of an "Earth suit" provides a simple and helpful perspective on the spiritual world. Meanwhile, take good care of your Earth-suit. May it give you many years of good service!
