Guard Your Heart!

Prov 4:23 - Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

When I was struggling to understand why someone had allowed their love to grow cold, the Lord spoke one of the saddest things that I have ever heard!

When your heart is clouded by sin you can't see what's beautiful.

I love love love beautiful things - some tangible and others intangible! Love is beautiful! Committment and sacrifice are beautiful! Godly character is beautiful! How joyless and dreary life would be if I could no longer see what's beautiful! But that's what sin does. It hardens the heart and blinds a person to whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy. I've watched it happen to people! And once they slip into that dreary existence they rarely break free. Because it happens gradually, the persons so affected seem to be unaware of their condition. If only they could see the condition of their heart!!!
