Generational Sins and Curses

Everyone knows that certain sins and dysfunctional behaviors can be handed down from one generation to the next. For example:

  • Anger
  • Addiction
  • Bad Marriages & Divorce
  • Infidelity and Sexual Sin
  • Abuse
  • Violence
  • Poverty
  • Anger
  • Suicide

Although outsiders can easily "connect the dots," members of the affected family(ies) generally cannot. They are either:

  1. unaware of the situation
  2. in denial of the situation
  3. regard the dysfunctional behavior as normal
  4. resistant to change
  5. clinging to the dysfunctional behavior out of misplaced loyalty to a parent or grandparent.

For example, a person was told by multiple counselors that she was repeating the mistakes of her mother. But when she was asked to do a certain thing differently, her response was, "My parents didn't do that. So I'm not going to do that either!" Why pay a counselor if you're not going to take their advice? Holy Spirit told me:

"It does not dishonor your parents to set aside the old ways that were handed down to you."

"There's a difference between respecting your parents and covering up their sins."

Q: Why such unreasoning resistance to change?
A: It's spiritual warfare.
Whenever you make a Godly choice, Holy Spirit comes alongside you to help that choice take root and fluorish in your life. And whenever you make an ungodly choice, evil spirits come alongside you and try to make your ungodly choice grow deeper roots into your life. Your ungodly belief is the "legal ground" that gives evil spirits permission to enter. For example, if you have an anger problem, stamping your foot and proclaiming, "I've got a RIGHT to be angry!!! will attract a demon of anger just as surely as an open garbage can with rotting food will attract flies. The disgusting photo of a housefly posted with this article is intended to leave you with a visual reminder of how generational sins and curses work in the demonic realm. In case you have forgotten, one of the names of the Devil is Beelzebub - which means "lord of the flies."

As I watched the "train wreck" happening in slo-mo, Holy Spirit explained,

"This is how they arrange for their continuance."

In order to participate in this world, evil spirits must find habitation in a physical body. But every body has an expiration date - the day you will die. Evil spirits attached to an aging parent are not fools; they know that their "lease" will soon expire. So, they plan years in advance for their continuance in a new "home." However, they will need "legal grounds for entry" before they can enter another body. And the easiest way to get "legal grounds" is to manipulate the parent into passing on their ungodly beliefs to their children. The bottom line is that by passing their ungodly belief(s) on to their children, the parent(s) sets up their children to inherit their demons. This is why generational sins and curses pass so easily from one generation to the next.

Because we tend to underestimate the size and scope of the unseen spiritual world Holy Spirit told me:

"The spirit world is not smaller than the physical world - nor is it less populated."

On one hand, you can't afford to remain ignorant of it! But on the other hand, you can only get "head knowledge" from reading books or attending seminars on spiritual warfare. You cannot get any real power because, as Holy Spirit once explained to me,

"Discernment of spirits comes only from God."

So, learn all you can about spiritual warfare. But you need more than "head knowledge." You need power! Discernment of spirits is one of the spiritual gifts. Just ask God to give it to you.
