(08) Having experienced genuine Holy Spirit revival repeatedly in the past, I have always looked back upon these times with great wonder, longing, and affection. But a friend made a very perceptive point. About the Revival that she and her husband experienced several years ago, she said
“It was wonderful! But I don't want to think that it was the high point of my entire life, and that everything afterwards is all downhill.”
Up to this time, I had always regarded these times of true Holy Spirit Revival to be the high points of my life. So what was I missing? I prayed until I got an answer. Referring to these Special Times, the Holy Spirit said,
That isn’t the high point of your life. The high point of your life is the work you do for Him.
I prayed for another day to understand more specifically what work Holy Spirit was referring to. While I was showering the next morning, He explained
"It’s the people you bring into My Kingdom.
True Holy Spirit Revival is an awesome experience! Sometimes the Presence of the Lord is so strong in a place that you cannot even stand! One year at the Georgia Men‟s Advance something swept through the auditorium at the climax of the meeting. It knocked me (and many other men) off our feet and left me jabbering in tongues for several minutes. Others felt the Holy Spirit sweep over them too. But I did not understand what had happened to me until several weeks later, at which time the Lord explained that I had been given discernment of spirits.
"I did not give what you asked for. I gave what you needed."
At that time our home was demonized, and discernment of spirits was what I needed most to hold our family together. But bringing even one lost child back onto the Father's lap is of even greater significance. And what is the purpose of Revival anyway, if not to equip us to bring others into the Kingdom?
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be My witnesses . . . (Acts 1:8 NIV)
